Parking in Vienna - a bit of a pain :-)

Parking in Vienna can be tricky, even for us, Viennese. The signs are obviously in German, so its difficult to read, never mind understand for foreigners. In general, keep in mind that there is almost everywhere fee based public parking with a maximum duration of 120 minutes.

So in districts 1-9 (you can see in what district you are by checking the house numbers and street names which usually have the district in front of it, i.e. 7.Kaiserstrasse 96 would be 7th district), the following parking times apply except otherwise stated on the street signs:
Monday to Friday: 9am - 8pm, max. 120 minutes
For districts, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 the following times apply:
Monday to Friday: 9am - 7pm, max. 180 minutes.

You can purchase parking tickets (Parkscheine) at any smoke shope (Trafik) but its easiest to register on www.handyparken.at for a mobile parking registration with credit card payment. Hence you can send text messages easy with your car tag number.

If you are coming with a car, we strongly recommend parking it in one of the many Park and Ride garages who offer day prices of EUR 3. All of the park and ride garages are well connected with the Viennese public transport system, which is one of the best in the world and will get you pretty much anywhere in Vienna quickly and cheap.
